Lemond Bikes
Lemond Bikes is the cycle business set up by former professional road racer Greg Lemond. In 1986, Greg LeMond became the first American cyclist to win the Tour de France but his elation was cut short when the following year he was shot and seriously injured in a hunting accident. He made a miraculous recovery and was able to return to the Tour de France in 1989, winning it dramatically in its final stage by the slimmest margin in the event's history from Frenchmen Laurent Fignon. He won again for the third time the following year of 1990 and is spoken of by many afficianados as one of the last clean winners of the Tour.
Lemond started Lemond Bikes in 1990 while he was still racing and partnered with Trek in 1992 to enhance the brand's distribution.

Lemond frame dimensions are designed differently from most production and custom bikes available today. Lemond seat tube angles are more relaxed and Lemond top tubes are longer than other frames of similar size. With Lemond's thinking in this area heavily influenced by studies carried out by his mentor Cyrille Guimard who was his first professional coach in France, The studies examined a rider's body position placement for optimum bio-mechanical and aerodynamic efficiency.
Riding static bikes in wind tunnels the testers measured power output, muscle effectiveness, heart rate, aerodynamics and perceived comfort. The tests provided very useful data on frame sizing, saddle height and body positioning relative to the bike's cranks and bottom bracket position.
The results showed that it is more efficient to pedal from "behind" the crank centre than in "front" so a rider should be sitting far enough back so they can push the pedals over the top of the stroke and then pull them through the bottom.
